An sell-out audience attended the most recent Cholsey Concert, A Regular Royal Queen, at St. Mary’s church on Friday 7thJune. Under the guidance of Cynthia Morey, an extensive and highly varied programme of music, song and poetry, reflecting aspects of the coronation and reign of Queen Elizabeth II, was warmly received. Cynthia acted as compere, also taking part in vocal quartets, and was joined by Judy Dewey (monologue) Anthony Jennings (clarinet and bass clarinet) Alan Newell (baritone), Jane Partington (soprano, ukulele) Malcolm Pearce (bass, piano and organ), Janet Pound (piano solos and accompanist) and Ian Wheeler (baritone).
The concert was organized in memory of Stuart Dewey, whose expertise with sound and lighting enhanced many previous Cholsey entertainments. Appropriately, Judy and Becky Dewey assisted with audio effects. A collection was made in aid of our local Air Ambulance charity.
A full review of the show will appear in the forthcoming edition of The Forty and the players have received an invitation from one of our out-of-village patrons to repeat the production in the autumn.
Many thanks are due to St. Mary’s for much kind co-operation, to Cholsey 1000 Plus for supporting the venture and to the highly efficient ladies who managed front-of-house affairs to everyone’s satisfaction.
