Tuesday evening, 4 June 2013 we were at the Pavilion early setting out tables and chairs for the first Cholsey Creative Club meeting. How many tables? How many chairs? We had no idea how many people would come – in fact if anyone would come despite the many flyers and posters we had displayed around the village. Soon people started to arrive carrying all manner of things to do: painting, embroidery, knitting, Decopatch, flower arranging, card making, calligraphy. After a very short while everyone was talking to each other and walking around to look at the various crafts. There was a real buzz! Refreshed by drinks and biscuits (included in the £3 fee), the evening all too soon had to end and we all spilled out of the new Pavilion talking and laughing on our way home. We are pleased to say this has been typical of all the meetings so far – the Creative Club is off to a great start!
During the school summer holidays parents/grandparents can bring their children of school-age along for free but bring something for them to make or do. Looking further ahead we plan to have tutorials for different crafts and members have given us lots of ideas of what they would like to learn.
