Cholsey Primary School is holding a 24-hour music marathon to raise money for musical instruments. Pupils aged from four to eleven will take part in the marathon, along with teachers, parents and professional musicians. The event will be held at the school from 2pm on Thursday 3rd April until 2pm the following day.
Over 100 children in the school already receive music lessons or perform in bands and choirs and the school would like even more to be able to take part in music activities within lesson time and as part of the school curriculum. Even simple classroom instruments are expensive to buy and unfortunately little money is available within the school budget. It is hoped that this event will raise £5000 – to equip the school with enough instruments to allow every child to have access to quality music learning.
The 24-hour marathon will feature the school’s recorder groups, choir, wind band and soloists, and will culminate in a musical assembly. There will musical workshops and a range of other musical activities. Sleepover accommodation will be provided for older children participating through the night. Parents, friends and members of the public are invited to attend between 6:15pm and 10:30pm on Thursday 3rd April when performances will include Cholsey children, Cholsey Silver Band, local folk musicians, local choirs and a visiting professional jazz band.
Donations can be made directly to the school or via the just giving website:
