A new history book called “Winterbrook and Cholsey’s East End” by Tony Rayner was published in Jun 13, and covers the area from The Forty to Wallingford taking in outlying areas such as Hithercroft, Hillgreen and Caps Lane.
If you live in this part of the Parish then your house could well be featured in the book…
A short taster of the book is outlined in the following paragraph and attached photo:
Dame Agatha Christie died in 1976 and Max married his friend Barbara Parker. Max Mallowan survived Agatha by just two years – both are buried in the churchyard of St Mary’s, Cholsey. Belatedly a blue plaque was fitted beside the front door of the house (Winterbrook House) in 2010 commemorating the time spent there by the Mallowans. Today the Agatha Christie Trail is a walk linking her home and burial place.
The book is available from the publisher at a cost of £12.50. Contact them by e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org but if you need to phone, the number is 01491 651127. Alternatively you can get the book directly from the author by contacting him on 01491 651609 or from the Wallingford Bookshop.
